TV Series Worth Watching

Well, most of us spend our 'free' time doing things which can make us relaxed and let our nerves loose before going back to our daily activities. One of the many activities can be done is indeed watching TV (with a bucket of popcorn and a jug of coke ready beside us, of course). I thought I would list down some of my favourite TV shows that are worth watching, at least to me. Some of the TV shows have lost their edge due to their long run throughout these years and i keep watching them just because i have spent so many countless hours watching the shows from their first season. So, here are my picks:

CSI (Crime Scene Investigation)

Season: 10 (on going)

Cast: Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Eric Szmanda, Paul Guilfoyle, Robert David Hall, Wallace Langham, Laurence Fishburne, David Berman, Liz Vassey.

Genre: Crime

It is the first series to introduce us to detailed forensics which were a breakthrough in its time. Too bad that William Petersen had to leave in the middle of season 9, but Laurence Fishburne as his replacement has brought new wind to the series even though it is still hard to shake off Grissom's image from the last 9 seasons. If you are interested in high-tech forensics and crime series, this is one show you need to see. Just look at the number of seasons the show has!

House M.D.

Season: 6 (On Going)

Cast: Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard, Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer, Peter Jacobson, Olivia Wilde

Genre: Medical Drama

House M.D. is not your regular medical drama TV series, as it introduced us to Dr. House, a doctor beyond explanation by words. He is the Head of The Diagnostic Department, he never wears his white doctor robe, he walks with a cane, he doesn't shave, he takes painkillers all the time, and he uses controversial method in treating his patients. Those are more than enough reasons for me to watch this 'brilliant' doctor.

Heroes

Season: 4 (Completed), awaiting Season 5

Genre: Superhero, Action, Drama

Cast: Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, Masi Oka, James Kyson Lee, Ali Larter, Jack Coleman, Zachary Quinto, Greg Grunberg, Robert Knepper.

Who doesnt love the first season of Heroes? It was what everyone talked about at that time, but that was 4 years ago. Since then, the show has experiences lots of ups and downs, and reluctantly i have to admit that its next seasons really can not match its first. However, i am still watching the show with my fingers crossed, hoping for improvement (still hoping). They introduced new villain in season 4 whom i believe is very familiar to the eyes of TV viewers, Robert Knepper. We all know him through his annoying role of a villain in Prison Break, and now he is back with 'powers'! Regardless of the degrading quality of the show, i still love superheroes and my hope is always high for this show.

Smallville

Season: 9 (On Going)

Cast: Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Allison Mack, Cassidy Freeman, Justin Hartley, Callum Blue

Genre: Superhero, Action, Drama

Superman! The American icon of superhero is indeed the most popular superhero character that we know of. That is why Smallville has caught my attention since the first time it aired (for your information, that would be around 9 years ago). How can we forget the opening of the series where we see the meteor shower hits Smallville which marks the arrival of an incredible hero? The show takes us to the story of Superman before he was Superman, a story of a young boy growing up, facing all his teenager issues to evolve into the man of steel himself. The first four seasons were very interesting to me, as the whole concept of Superman without his costume and most of his undeveloped-powers really caught my attention. We get to see Superman as a normal boy, trying to be loved, to impress people that he loves, and how everything can not always go as we all want it to be. On this show, we can see the human side of Superman in Clark Kent. Well, at least that was what I feel when Papa Kent and Mama Kent were still in the show. Without them around, I guess the show just lost its family, homey touch, but a boy has to grow eventually, doesn't he? The show has definitely lost its touch compared to its first few seasons, but i still watch the show anyway. I have spent so many years watching it that i can't find myself not watching it. Hope it gets its touch back, though.

Prison Break

Season: 4 (End)

Cast: Wenthworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, William Fichtner, Robert Knepper, Wade Williams, Michael Rapaport.

Genre: Drama

This is one of my favourite TV shows. The story evolves around Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), a genius structural-engineer who tries to break his brother out of prison because he thought that his brother was framed for the crime he did not do. He tattooed his body with the prison's blue print and covered it with other tattoos so that it would look just like ordinary tattoos. It is really fascinating to see how Scofield has planned everything to break out of the prison, but surely everything can not always go as planned which makes the show quite unpredictable. The show ended in season 4 with 2 additional episodes known as The Final Break to tie all the loose ends up. I considered ending the show there as a good idea because they have actually managed to break out of the prison in the first season! Luckily they (producers and network) realized it too and decided to tie everything up in the 4th season--I don't like the ending, though. Anyway, this is one great TV series to watch and i wouldn't mind recommending it to anyone i know.

Lost

Season: 6 (On Going-Last season)

Cast: Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lily, Jorge Garcia, Terry O'Quinn, Josh Holloway, Naveen Andrews, Daniel Dae Kim, Yunjin Kim, Henry Ian Cusick, Michae Emerson.

Imagine yourself to be flying on a plane and it suddenly crashes to an island, and it is not just an ordinary island. There is something about the mysterious island...
Yes, that is the main plot of this show. When i watched the pilot episode of the show, i was so intrigued by so many questions it could provide and make me puzzled just from watching the first episode. I ended up thinking about all the questions, guessing up all the answers and those are the elements that make the show worth watching. That is why this is one TV series not to be missed, guys! The mysteries will keep you on your seat and addicted to it as well. However, as the years gone by and the seasons keep stacking up, the island has become less mysterious, but that is what always happen to TV shows, isn't it? High ratings demand for more seasons, and more seasons demand for more plots, and just how many good plots can be generated from the existing plot? The good thing is, this season is announced to be the last and final season for Lost and as a big fan, I am very grateful that it would not suffer the agony of losing its main plot and become a joke just to make it runs longer and longer. This season seems to be improving too, and I am hoping for a good wrap-up to end this wonderful show.

Well, those are the Top 6 of my favourite, worth-watching TV Series. I tried to make it just the Top 5, but i found it so hard to do. There are other TV Series worth-watching of course, but i don't want to bore you guys with too many options now. I will write more of them in my following posts. Until then, I would totally understand if you want to prepare yourself for a marathon watching CSI, Lost, or maybe House M.D. See you in my next post.
