Going to Season 4, the fans of this show-including me-have high expectations towards the new season. Of course, the expectations are for the show to be back on its track, to be like the first season, to correct the wrongs that it has done (sounds like Hiro, eh?). I have just finished watching the final episode of season 4 and it's time to look and match our expectations with what the show gives. This section contains spoilers, so for those who hate spoilers please just skip this article. Without further ado, let's dissect this season of Heroes...
This season falls under Volume 5 of the Heroes storyline with the title Redemption. The show introduces us with some new faces, new characters, and one character standing out the most would be Robert Knepper who is familiar with us since his role in Prison Break. Robert Knepper plays the role of Samuel Sullivan, a leader of a carnival known as The Sullivan Bros. Carnival.

Samuel Sullivan (Robert Knepper) and The Sullivan Bros. Carnival
The 2-hour special first episode of the season starts of with the scene of Samuel Sullivan and his carnival crews burying someone who is called Joseph. It appears that Joseph is Samuel's brother. It is shown in this funeral that Samuel uses his power to move the earth, thus burying his late brother and his coffin deep in the ground. Then we will also see how our 'heroes' are doing now. Claire Bennet is trying to fit in -as alwa
ys-as she enters her college life. Peter Petrelli tries his best to be a 'hero' by working as a paramedic and using his power to help him save people. Hiro Nakamura and Ando Masahashi open a 'Superhero for Hire' agency. Noah Bennet tries to live a normal life and move on with his life after his divorce. Nathan Petrelli (who is actually Sylar) gets confused with his body as he has the body of Sylar with Nathan's memory. Angela Petrelli can not forget the fact that even though she really loves his son, Nathan, deep inside he is still Sylar. Tracy Strauss tries to get back to her old life. Matt Parkman lives a life of living hell as it turns out that Sylar's memory is trapped inside his own head. I hope I have mentioned all of the leading characters because we all know that the show has become like 'this' because of the vast-growing characters without further development.
The main storyline of this season revolves around Samuel Sullivan and his ambition to gather people with abilities to join his carnival. Later on the show, it is revealed that the reason behind Samuel's act to gather so many people with powers is because he becomes more powerful with the more 'special' people gather around him. Throughout the series, Samuel shows many different sides of him to the people around him. We can see him doing very despicable things but we can also see his romantic and melancholic side as we learn that the reason for everything he has done is to be with his childhood love. However, he soon learns that he can not always get what he wants and the world doesn't really welcome people like him and his carnival crews. These kinds of twisted perception and hurt will then lead him to a resolution: Show the world that 'special' people exist and they can do things so scary that the world need to fear them.
However, Samuel is not the only threat because there is also the threat of Sylar gaining his body and mind back. Sylar's mind is trapped in Matt Parkman's head all this time and it has grown quite powerful as it eventually gains the power to control Matt's body and at last return to his respected body. Peter has to learn to accept Nathan's death and move on with it. Even after returning to his own body, Sylar can't help but feel that he is missing out on something in his life. He then learns that he is afraid to die alone which then leads to his conclusion: He wants to change and be a new man. For all of you out there who always like Sylar as a super-villain, you will not like this part of story where he decides to redeem himself (but the volume's title says it all: Redemption, guys!). On the last episode of Season 4, he even says a line which i don't think i will ever forget: "I am a hero". Yes, he really says it as he tries to save the world along with Peter, fighting Samuel and his plans. The final fight with Samuel however, is not as I hoped and imagined. I was hoping for a greater and longer battle to end the season finale.
Volume 6 : Brave New World
The beginning of volume 6 takes off with Claire-who has been having trouble trying to fit-in to the world of 'normal' people-decides to stop pretending that she is 'normal' and shows the world that she is 'special'. After the fight with Samuel, the press is all over the place and knowing this, Claire climbs a Ferris Wheel and jumping-off of it to fall directly to the ground. As expected, she is back on her feet in no time and heals instantly. This is of course seen by the press and the people around there and this will definitely lead to a Brave New World. At least Sylar thinks and says so.
New Characters
Here are some of the new faces in this season of Heroes:
Samuel Sullivan (Robert Knepper)
Ability: Control earth and other minerals, manipulate ink.
He has the power to manipulate earth which means he can even move mountains where ever he wants it to. It is a very powerful power, but his power will only manifest if he is around others with powers. Well then, you can guess his weakness, can't you?
Lydia (Dawn Olivieri)
Ability: Show people's hopes and desires through her tattoos.
Emma Coolidge (Deanne Bray)
Ability: See sound as colours, use music to call anyone she wants, use sound and convert it to a physical form of attack.
Edgar (Ray Park)
Ability: Move with super speed
Eli (Todd Stashwick)
Ability: Replicate clones of himself
Damien (Harry Perry III)
Ability: Show, manipulate memories.
Will there be a next season of Heroes? It is not confirmed yet, but even if there will be Season 5, i am hoping for an improvement of the storyline. Return the excitement of Season 1 and ratings will surely increase as well. The show still has potential because even though critics are flying away, people still watch the show anyway. We sure like superheroes, don't we?
